Hi John,
This week, When We All Vote’s Co-Chair Michelle Obama surprised students from 20 high schools on a Zoom call to share some exciting news: Their schools are the winners of the 2020 Prom Challenge!

In January, When We All Vote teamed up with MTV’s +1thevote campaign to launch the 2020 Prom Challenge to celebrate and recognize 20 high schools across the country integrating voter registration into their schools in the most creative and impactful ways with a grant to throw an epic prom. (You might remember seeing lots of prom throwback photos [[link removed]] on social media!)
Unfortunately, COVID-19 has shuttered schools and canceled important milestones like proms and graduation ceremonies, but we believe our seniors deserve to celebrate all they’ve accomplished.
We’re partnering on MTV’s Prom-athon -- a virtual celebration for graduating high school seniors with a special focus on commemorating another important milestone for young people this year: registering and becoming first time voters in November.
Class of 2020: RSVP to Prom-athon on Friday, May 22nd. Get ready to dance in your living room to exclusive musical performances, hang out with your favorite celebrities, and celebrate the 2020 Prom Challenge winners.

The students at these schools represent some of the very best of our country by leading My School Votes [[link removed]] teams and making sure their peers are registered and ready to vote. For too long, young people -- and especially young people of color -- have been left out of the political process. Getting more young people to vote is critical to When We All Vote’s mission. The 2020 Prom Challenge winners are an essential part of our effort to ensure every eligible voter makes their voice heard in every election.

What the students from every school that applied for the 2020 Prom Challenge have accomplished is truly amazing. I was blown away by their creativity to help their peers register to vote.
Here are just a few highlights of their amazing work:
- Communication and Media Arts High School in Michigan registered 99% of their eligible students, and student leader Jayvonne even got a shoutout from Mrs. Obama at our last Couch Party!
- At Norte Vista High School in California, student leader Deja and her My School Votes team registered over 1,000 members of her school community by using social media and hosting events like debate parties.
- Students at Meadowcreek High School in Georgia started hosting Woke Wednesdays to educate their peers about the importance of making your voice heard in our elections.
- Students at TF North High School in Illinois worked with their state senator to amend the election code allowing students two hours to leave school to vote without penalty, and the governor signed the bill at their school.
- Abraham Lincoln High School students in Pennsylvania packaged goodie bags for students celebrating their 18th birthday and included information on how to register to vote.
Please join me in celebrating all 20 winners of the 2020 Prom Challenge. We are so proud of them! And help us spread the word about Prom-athon -- our virtual celebration for the Class of 2020.
Do you know a graduating high school senior? Forward them this email and tell them to RSVP to Prom-athon on Friday, May 22nd by visiting prom.mtv.com [[link removed]] .
It will be a night to remember!
Take care,
Andrew
