John — I wanted to make sure you saw our message yesterday featuring rescue dog Chewy’s story. Chewy is, to date, the worst emaciation case I’ve seen who went on to make a full recovery. Luckily, he made it to us just in time, but there are still so many hungry animals nationwide who need our help.

This holiday, the ASPCA is hoping to raise 60,000 meals for hungry animals before Thanksgiving, and I hope we can count on your support. For animals like Chewy and so many more, every meal counts.

This holiday, times are tough for many.

There’s a greater need than ever for resources and supplies — so we’ve raised our Holiday Food Drive goal from last year to 60,000 meals for hungry animals before Thanksgiving.
This critical goal is more than a number — it will provide lifesaving meals, comfort and care to those who are suffering from the pains of hunger, wondering if their next meal will ever come.

For animals rescued from neglect or cruelty, a meal at an ASPCA facility or at an emergency shelter may be the first comfort they’ve had in a long while. It is a lifeline for animals like Chewy, who was left abandoned outside in a large bag in Manhattan. Chewy was extremely underweight — so weak that he was unable to stand and could barely lift his head.

Likely mere days away from starving to death, Chewy was brought to us just in time.

Thanks to compassionate people like you, we were able to be there for Chewy and give him the specialized care he needed. After his rescue, Chewy was placed on a refeeding protocol to slowly reintroduce food into his body and, due to significant muscle wasting, needed weeks of intensive care to help him stand up again.
Every day we see so many animals like him that come to us broken and in desperate need. Your support today can help fill their empty bowls, find them loving homes, give them the second chances they deserve and so much more.

Every meal counts for hungry animals this holiday, so please join our Holiday Food Drive and help us reach 60,000 meals today.
