Friend,
The Humane Society of the United States' latest undercover investigation of SeaQuest, a multi-state chain of shopping mall wildlife petting zoos, has revealed horrific cruelty at several of their locations. The investigator witnessed hungry animals begging for food, stressed animals terrified by public handling and animals condemned to live in filthy, roach-infested conditions, among other disturbing discoveries. One discovery included being told by staff members about three parakeets who were stepped on and killed during guest interactions.
Despite being cited by the U.S. Department of Agriculture more than 110 times for violations of the Animal Welfare Act, SeaQuest continues to operate their businesses where money-making interactions are prioritized over providing even the most basic animal care.
This cruelty needs to end. That's why we're working hard to pass the Better CARE for Animals Act, which will strengthen multi-agency collaboration in enforcement of the AWA helping to shut down places like SeaQuest for good. The bill has strong bipartisan support, but we only have a short window to pass it before the end of the year—please tell your legislators to support this important bill TODAY!
We don't have a moment to lose. As HSUS' investigation revealed, the terrible conditions in these horrendous places are harming animals. Several animals were seen to be suffering from infections, injuries, parasites, or other health conditions. They also demonstrated behaviors related to immense psychological stress. Animals were attacking one another and pacing in circles with inadequate enrichment and unable to engage in natural behaviors.
Businesses like SeaQuest that put profits over animal welfare and endanger public safety should NOT be allowed to continue. Demand change by supporting the Better Care Act for Animals NOW!
