Ferris, the "Underdog” of our flock, would have been sold in a feed store, but against all odds, he found himself at Farm Sanctuary instead.
Sadly, our confident and charming Ferris passed away in October, shortly after we named him one of this year’s “adoptable” spokesturkeys. But his story is worth telling—and we know it can help save others.
Feed stores may seem far removed from factory farms, but the animals they sell often suffer from day one—born in industrial hatcheries and mailed to retailers without food or water.
Thankfully, a kind store employee alerted Second Chance Chickens Microsanctuary about a sick turkey named Faye and agreed to release a second bird, too.
That’s when our underdog, Ferris, got his second chance, and we happily agreed to welcome both him and Faye to Farm Sanctuary.
Safe and secure, Ferris was soon strutting around and showing off his feathers to all. You’d never know this confident rooster had such humble beginnings.
But, true to his underdog roots, Ferris was constantly upstaged by his charming friend, Erol rooster. They gave some frenemy vibes, but it was clear these feathered friends didn’t really mind sharing the spotlight.
Like Erol, you know that Ferris was someone special. Will you “adopt” his memory today with a one-time gift that helps farm animals everywhere?
To show our appreciation, we’ll send you an adoption certificate—your choice of digital or print—featuring photos of Ferris and his inspiring rescue story.
John, thank you for considering a gift to honor Ferris. It means so much to us.
