Message from your local Berridge ward Councillors

We hope that in such worrying times, ourmessage reaches yousafe and well.

We know lockdown is incredibly difficult and we have been working to support our communities of Berridge Ward during these difficult times.

Traditional times of celebration and family time have all been disrupted. To help out we organised a couple of special events.

Cllr Toby Neal got Wilkos to donate a 1000 Easter eggs for children and families in the ward. CllrAngela Kandola then arranged with local resident volunteers to load up their taxis with eggs andCllr Shuguftah Quddoos helpedto distribute across Berridge ward.

And to celebrate the beginning of Ramadan they also distributed fresh fruit and dates to many households with thanks and generosity of Mr Salmat of LM Stores on Berridge Road.

Despite the current conditions, life continues in Berridge Ward and as your local Councillors we are continuing to support residents and businesses. You can contact us via telephone or email (contact details are at the bottom of this email).

Sadly, there have been a few anti-social behaviour issues across the ward, particularly around Claremont, Mayo and Sherwood Rise. There have been a number of neighbour disputes which have been dealt with through our Community Protection Officers.

We have received a number of requests for support with planning applications, mostly residential changes, which were being dealt with as normal until the middle of April. The carriage way repairs on Hucknall Road have been completed, whilst additional road repairs have works planned into a programme.

We have also been dealing with the failure of landlords to register their House in Multiple Occupation (HMO), poor quality accommodation and the failure to support vulnerable individuals by the probation service and some social landlords.

We want to thank all NHS, Carers and key workerswho have gone above and beyond the call of duty to keep us safe.

Beth is blown away by local community support groups and individual volunteers who are helping out the vulnerable and emergency situations.

The Pythian Club is supporting the community with welfare checks and has been delivering food, providing sports equipment, picking up and delivering prescriptions. They have also been delivering sports equipment to young people with mental health. Thanks also go to Disability Support, Bestwood Advice, Inspired-Succeed, NG Community Hub, Stockhill Residents Association, the Food Banks and faith groups. Local community groups and volunteers have been simply amazing.
