Here's the message from BXE and their team on why you should sign on now:
Democrats in the White House and Senate have the power until January 20th to take strong action on the ever-deepening climate crisis. They need to use that power!
Even after Trump takes office Democrats in both the House and the Senate will have the power to put up fierce resistance to Trump and MAGA's plans to severely set back the (too slow) progress that was made over the last four years to shift away from dirty fossil fuels to clean renewable energy. They can speak out loudly and clearly against those regressive plans. They can mobilize their constituents to bring political pressure to bear. They can issue strong statements and speak out through the mass media. They can use the 60-vote rule in the Senate to block non-budget legislation. They can filibuster, days-long, multi-speaker filibusters! They can use all the tools available to put roadblocks in the way of the plans to strengthen the power of the polluting fossil fuelers as well as on many other important issues.
Click here to sign the petition, which will be delivered Thursday, November 21 to the White House, Senate and House Democratic leadership calling upon them to resolve on this course of action going forward!
This petition is being delivered on November 21st after a 9 am morning action in front of the headquarters of FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which will have its monthly meeting on that day. Beyond Extreme Energy, Third Act DC, OH, MD, VA, DC Extinction Rebellion, and other groups will be there to continue our 2024 UnFrack FERC campaign against this rubber-stamping supporter of the fossil fuel industry. We will continue to demand that they take environmental justice and the climate crisis seriously.
The Trump victory on November 5 cannot immobilize us. Truly, action is the best antidote to despair or, in the words of labor organizer Joe Hill over a century ago, Don't Mourn, Organize!
Sign our petition to the Democratic Party here. And join us if you can on November 21 in Washington, DC, in front of the FERC headquarters at 9 am, and/or at noon as we gather near Capitol Hill to deliver our petition.
