2024 Local Convention Updates and Resources

This Saturday, November 23rd @ 2 PM, Sacramento DSA will meet at the Arden-Dimick Library (and Zoom) for our annual local convention. We will discuss chapter priorities, vote on bylaw amendments, and set the direction of the chapter for 2025, a year poised to be one where the iron of organizing is hot and ready to strike! Only dues paying members may participate and vote, so if you haven't already, renew your dues or join DSA today!

Opening Speaker - Kate Chatfield
|
Kate Chatfield will deliver the opening remarks at Sacramento DSA's 2024 Convention!
Chatfield is a Sacramento Native and the policy director of the Justice Collaborative. She is also the former chief of staff to San Francisco's progressive D.A. Chesa Boudin. She worked as the interim director of the University of San Francisco School of Law Criminal Justice Clinic. She co-founded and was the policy director for a California criminal justice reform organization, Re:store Justice. There, she was the lead drafter and organizer for California’s Senate Bill 1437, which amended California’s felony murder rule and other common law doctrines related to accomplice liability for homicides. Kate was a criminal defense attorney, representing clients in trial and appellate courts, both in private practice and at the Office of the State Public Defender. Kate attended law school at night, starting when her daughters were 3 and 6 years old.

The SacDSA Local Convention Working Group drafted this years agenda*. Feel free to take a look before we meet on Saturday.

The Local Convention Working Group is also responsible for writing the rules we will use during the convention. These rules* will be reviewed and approved by a vote from the membership at the beginning of the meeting.

Proposed Bylaw Amendments

This year, the chapter will be discussing and voting two complimentary bylaw amendments about our chapter's electoral endorsement process.

The window to submit resolutions for the 2024 chapter convention is still open. If you have an idea for what your chapter's priorities should be for the next year, especially if you are already an active member of one of our committees, submit your ideas for a vote!

Steering Committee Election, Nominations Still Open!

The window to nominate one of your comrades, yourself, or both, for a position on the 2025 SacDSA Steering Committee is still open! If you are looking for a way to step into chapter leadership and are interested in doing more to help the internal operations of your chapter, don't be shy! Run for the Steering Committee.
