Handy Links for Strong Citizens
Hello, {{ person.firstname
}}
This week, 15 people joined the Strong Towns movement as
Roger Barry, Michael Hoffman, Carol Jackson, James Kent, Andrew Kluter,
Colin
Martin, Robert Meagher, Lewis Nelson, Darren Ottaway, Mark Pan, Deborah
Salkind,
Charles Saxe, Phil Studenberg, Lynn Walker, and Emma Wendt, thank you for
your generosity. Your contribution will help us continue to
provide resources to others who are leading their own local, bottom-up
revolution.
We have some very cool, very popular stories to share with you on topics
ranging
from parking minimums to video game urbanism. These were some of my
favorite
pieces from the past five days—I sincerely hope you enjoy them as much as I
did.
We've only seen the immediate effects of the coronavirus and subsequent
lockdowns. There's more to come. James Howard Kunstler joins us on to talk
about some of the longer-term consequences of the pandemic.
Parking minimums are expensive, they waste space, and they're a HUGE
government
subsidy for the automobile industry. This Canadian city might just do away
with
them entirely. Ashley Salvador gives us some valuable context for the move.
Does the beautifully executed urban setting of Final Fantasy 7 teach us
something about how places conducive to adventure and good living are
formed? Daniel Herriges thinks so.
Next Week's Web Broadcast
The Local Leader's Toolkit: A Strong Towns Response to the Pandemic
In this free webcast on Tuesday, May 19 at noon CDT, Strong Towns president
Chuck Marohn will describe the three phases of a Strong Towns response to
the
pandemic. He gets specific, with short-, medium-, and long-range tasks.
This
plan will improve your recovery, lead to greater prosperity, and make your
city
more financially resilient — no matter what the future brings.
Thanks for checking in with us! See you soon!
