The Muslim Civic Coalition is hosting an event at the state capitol in Springfield this Wednesday starting at 10 am. They are addressing inclusive religious dietary needs, anti-hate legislation and free speech.
As Greens, we have something to bring to the table as well - advocating for fair ballot access and direct democracy. We are building these campaigns now and building relationships in the process. The Illinois Green Party must show up and show out!
I think we can all agree that the tilted playing field keeps us from getting big things done. Fair Ballot Access would enable Greens across Illinois a fair chance to not only run, but win seats throughout the state and in Washington DC. Let’s work together and end the unfair restrictions placed upon third, new and independent parties.
Right now, Democrats and Republicans hold the keys to power. Other states bypassed them and brought issues directly to the public. Illinois has restricted that right. The best we can do is non-binding advisory questions. That's why Greens are working to establish a Direct Democracy campaign to add binding referendums to our ballot. This will take power out of the hands of the gatekeepers. The will of the people must be heard and become a reality.
