Hi there,
As we all sort out the aftermath of this election cycle, GGWash is reflecting on [[link removed]] our commitment to affect change on the local level [[link removed]] . Now, more than ever, we must come together and work hard for the future we want to see.
These social events that we post in this bi-monthly update might seem like small actions, but change always starts in a small package. I hope you will avail yourselves of them and get just a little more involved.

Join us as we hear from experts about ongoing development along Maryland's Purple and Blue Lines, with Chelsea Allinger, GGWash's executive director, moderating the panel discussion. Join us for drinks and community on H St! We'll connect with other folks who think that cities should be for people, not for cars, and who want to see more housing, more affordable housing, and the land-use regulations necessary to support the above—plus, hear what GGWash is working on, and what you can do to get involved. Families are welcomed and encouraged to attend. We'll have some crafts and games on hand for our younger guests.

White Oak is an area of eastern Montgomery County with a rich history: Rachel Carson wrote Silent Spring here, and it inspired Carol Black to create the sitcom The Wonder Years. It also has an exciting future, in part due to the advocacy of the Friends of White Oak, which was formed to build community and push for more public and private investment here.
That’s why we’re excited to partner with Friends of White Oak [[link removed]] for a happy hour! We’ll get to hang out, enjoy drinks and snacks, and talk about how to make East County an even better place to live, work, and gather.

In January 2023, GGWash was all set to hold trainings for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners on the issues they might face and how to navigate DC’s bureaucracies. But the DC Board of Ethics and Accountability told Commissioners the trainings constituted “illegal gifts.” Partnering with the Institute for Justice, we sent a letter in September 2024 challenging BEGA’s position on the basis of freedom of speech. GGWash doesn’t usually weigh in on national matters like presidential elections. But an event like the second election of Donald Trump to the US presidency has us thinking about what it will mean for good governance, our region, and the people we care about.
