Dear John,

The Bendukidze Free Market Center (BFMC) in Kyiv, Ukraine, isn’t letting the war with Russia deter their mission to teach economics to the nation’s youth.

BFMC was founded in 2015, and in 2019 their impact began to increase exponentially…

That’s because that year, the Ukrainian government removed economics from the high school curriculum.

Teachers who still wanted to cover the subject in class had only five hours of classroom time to cover basic economic concepts.

Teachers needed help to explain economics as efficiently as possible, and students needed help learning the material outside the classroom.

BFMC decided to step in, and they soon launched their Economic Education Accelerator project. Among many resources and programs, the initiative utilizes an adapted version of Economics in 31 Hours, a textbook first published in 2015 by fellow Atlas Network partner Lithuanian Free Market Institute.

BFMC’s overall education program started in 12 pilot schools with 25 teachers.

Today, the program has launched three regional accelerators, BFMC has trained 500 teachers, and they have taught over 30,000 students about free market economics.

Because of their success, BFMC has been nominated for the 2024 Templeton Freedom Award.

The winner will be announced this Thursday at Atlas Network’s annual Freedom Dinner in New York City.

All my best,

Kam
