We are all processing the election results in our own ways, from renewed commitment to solidarity with the most marginalized communities to shoring up our personal and organizational security.* But one post-election trend is clear:
We need to revisit how and where we organize, especially online.
Progressives, reporters and elected Democrats are leaving Musk's mouthpiece, Twitter. More than 7 million people have joined the social media app Bluesky since the election. By Sunday, 11/17 the Bluesky community was over 19 million strong, (including Netroots Nation).

Bluesky is a B-corp–meaning it is mission-driven and adheres to a higher standard of corporate ethics with no oligarchs or algorithms controlling it. In short, the verdict from tech press like Ryan Broderick is, “Bluesky is the new Twitter, Probably”.

Netroots Nation is one of the many organizations to join the Twitter #eXit. Musk is using the platform and the reach it gives him to undermine democracy and our community is already shifting from Twitter to Bluesky.
Migrating to Bluesky will not stop the rise of fascism. But it’s a concrete step that you as a digital organizer can take to respond to a changed, more treacherous terrain.
To be clear, it’s probably best to not delete your Twitter account which would open your organization up to impersonation (the bigger your account, the more relevant this is). But now it’s critical to dig into the hows and whys of investing time in Bluesky if Twitter has been an important part of your communication, mobilization or media/influencer outreach.
