A record one in eight New York City public school students are unhoused this year [ [link removed] ]. That’s 146,000 children, a 23% increase from last year. That number is astounding, and unacceptable. You already know what I am going to say. One of the major things that prevents parents of children from obtaining housing is an ID. But we have parents come to us for so much more than that. You need an ID and a child’s birth certificate to access most types of services that exist to help keep children safe and healthy, and in a city as big as New York, where it gets as cold as it does in winter, there are few things as important as keeping children inside, safe, and healthy.
Stories like this pop up every day, which is why seven years ago we started Hamer’s Heroes, our monthly donor club for donors who want to continuously support our work on the ground, because there is a need every single day.
I have been so grateful for the incredible community that has supported us over the years. As we prep for our 2025 strategy, we want to invite you to join us in making it happen. We count on and deeply appreciate the support of our monthly donors and we want to keep this community growing.
Hamer’s Heroes (monthly donors at any level) are part of a community of dedicated supporters that keep us going.
Your monthly donation allows us to plan for long term impact
Lower administration costs means more of your donation goes directly to our work
Regular support means we can address emergency needs as they arrive
We want to keep you up to date with how your support is making an impact, so starting next year Hamer’s Heroes will receive a monthly video message from Kat and schedule a quarterly zoom so you can connect with the team and other supporters.
AND, today through the end of the year, if you join or increase your monthly donation, you will also receive a cute enamel ID pin!
For current donors: You should find your account using the button below, if not, email
[email protected]!
We could not be more grateful for your continued support.
Onward,
Kat
