People For the American Way.

Friend,

During the presidential campaign, Donald Trump told us that he would punish his enemies. Now Congress might give him a new tool to do just that.

H.R. 9495, legislation that would give Trump’s administration unilateral authority to remove tax-exempt status from non-profit organizations he views as his political enemies, is up for a vote in Congress.

Make a call to urge your representative to reject H.R. 9495 today! >>

Now is not the time to give the executive branch broad new powers that can easily be abused. Throughout his campaign Trump vowed vengeance on those that oppose his administration’s efforts to roll back our rights and H.R. 9495 would give him more power to do exactly that.

Opposition groups and nonprofits fighting for a more just democracy, like People For the American Way, must be protected from attempts to stifle our free speech and right to protest. Our First Amendment protections are vital to the strength of our country.

This legislation is a part of a far-right attack on dissent. We must make our voices heard and stand up for free speech.

Take 5 minutes to call your representative and demand they vote “no” on H.R. 9495 today! >>

We must continue to fight back against attempts to restrict our free speech. Advocates for justice must be able to hold this administration accountable and fight for our interests.

Thank you for making a call today.

Charlie, People For the American Way
