Dear John,

Congress is about to vote again on a bill that would let the executive branch unilaterally shut down nonprofit organizations they disagree with. We need your help to stop it.

This week, the U.S. House of Representatives is likely to vote on H.R. 9495. The bill would grant the secretary of the Treasury the power to investigate and effectively shut down any nonprofit by stripping its tax-exempt status based on a unilateral accusation of wrongdoing.

Such power could easily be abused to quash free speech and punish any groups that oppose the president. Now is the time to contact Congress and voice your opposition.
Tell your representative: Don’t let the government silence rights groups! [link removed]

Palestinian rights organizations would likely be the first groups targeted by H.R. 9495. The legislation was first introduced in response to nationwide student protests against the genocide in Gaza. But many other social justice organizations—as well as universities, news outlets, and others—would be at risk just for disagreeing with those in power.
Send a message today. Urge Congress to stop the next administration from shutting down rights groups! [link removed]
