John,
Iowa Representative Steve King has a long history of bigotry and white
supremacy. From championing anti-immigrant policies to praising neo-Nazis
and Islamophobic leaders, King has infected Congress with his openly
racist ideals for 15 long years.
And just yesterday he defended his anti-abortion bill with zero exceptions
for rape and incest by saying, if not for rape and incest, “Would there be
any population of the world left?”
It gets worse…
“What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out
anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population
of the world left if we did that? Considering all the wars and all the
rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I
know that I can’t say that I was not a part of a product of that.”
There is no place in Congress for a far-right white nationalist, let alone
a rape apologist. We deserve better than Steve King.
King’s 2020 Democratic challenger, J.D. Scholten, has what it takes to win
this competitive race. But this is one of the most conservative districts
in the country, and you can bet the GOP is going to spend whatever it
