For the first half, we will welcome Chris Piper, Executive Director of the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP). Chris will be providing an overview of the recent election in Virginia and discuss its impact on Virginia. For the second half, the Chamber will be conducting a work session, open to private sector members, to draft the Arlington Chamber’s annual Responses to the Arlington County Policy Priorities. Business email compromise (BEC) is any criminal impersonation involving business email accounts (as opposed to free personal email accounts like gmail, yahoo, etc). The FBI calls it “one of the most financially damaging online crimes” with annual reports putting losses for businesses related to BEC at over $2.5B. That’s up around 700% from 2016, a staggering number meaning that this threat will likely only get worse in the small to medium-sized business (SMB) space.
