Since the emergency began, we have come to realise more of what we must always have known: how reliant we are on each other, how caring people can be and how brave some people have to be. Be it in The Meadows, in Nottingham, the country or beyond, we can be grateful for how well people have worked with the new expectations.
We want to say thank you to those: • Maintaining our health and care services • Providing food and basic supplies we need • Keeping our infrastructure and public transport going • Educating the children of the key worker families in our local primary schools • Providing extra security • Offering help and advice with money problems and energy bill • Volunteering to help those most in need.
Calls to the Council have been directed to our Neighbourhood Development Officer, who has been able to call on the range of these service suppliers and volunteers and council workers to meet the concerns. A special shout to the new Meadows Helpers network and to the range of local street groups who are helping those in need, co-ordinating efforts using mobile phones and social media. Locally the Police continue to tackle drug dealers, flats on Queen’s Road have received planning permissions and the Greener Meadows bid to the Climate Action Fund continues to progress.
But we know people need help now. So if you're not sure, do ask. We, your local Councillors, are only a phone call, text message or e-mail away. Please also call the Council’s helpline if you need any help because of Covid-19: 0115 915 5555.
We look forward to getting through this crisis and working with your to build a new future with a new economy, society and environment.
Cllr Nicola Heaton & Cllr Michael Edwards
Our teams have been busy helping hundreds of people get the support they need during the coronavirus pandemic. We have worked with partners across the neighbourhood to help those in need.
Here's an example of the work we’ve been doing:
We helped a single mother in the Meadows, with five children, who contacted us to say that her payments from Universal Credit had been missed. She now had no money and needed help with obtaining basics for herself and her children. She was referred to Nottingham Energy Partnership and Meadows Advice Group for support with her electric and Gas (received a voucher) – A local business (Nyumba Yako Ltd)  was able to provide two food parcels to keep the family going until the Universal Credit payment came through. Also provided support with bin collection issues.
A range of support is available for people in Nottingham – from asking good neighbours to pick up some essentials, all the way through to NHS Shielding Measures and Adult Social Care support.
If you are self-isolating, and have no other means of support, you can call the Council. We can deliver a food parcel to your door for a small charge – parcels are free for extremely vulnerable people in NHS Shielding Measures. Simply call the Council’s Customer Hub on 0115 915 5555. This line is open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday or you can complete the online form at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/coronavirus
Want to volunteer? If you would like to help your community by delivering food packages or providing phone support, please become a volunteer with Nottingham Community and Voluntary Service www.nottinghamcvs.co.uk/volunteering/want-to-volunteer
Want more than a food parcel? Our Meals at Home service provides single person and family food options as well as vegan and vegetarian meals – everything can be delivered frozen ready for you to cook at home or hot meals can be delivered too. If you have an elderly or vulnerable relative, ordering a regular delivery can help you to feel better, knowing a hot meal has been delivered to your loved one by our friendly team. Simply call 0115 876 1847 or visit www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/mealsathome

Sign up to receive an email bin reminder and we will send you an email you at 6pm the evening before reminding you which bin to put out the next day. nottinghamcity.gov.uk/binreminders
From keeping the kids entertained to keeping well, we've pulled together the best we can find to support you and your family during these strange times.
Made possible with help from teams within in the council and partners across the city, as well as national organisations, this library of resources will keep growing over the coming weeks and months.
