Dear John,
We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy during this difficult time.
As the coronavirus pandemic has upended our daily lives, we know that women are bearing much of the economic and health impact of this virus.
Women, especially women of color, are crucial to maintaining the health and economic stability of their families and communities as breadwinners, caregivers, and frontline workers. Women of color work in many of the industries especially hard hit by extensive unemployment as a result of pandemic-related business closures and layoffs, with unemployment claims topping more than 26 million in the last five weeks.
This is why it's essential that Congress focus the next COVID-19 relief package on addressing the specific needs of women, particularly women of color.
Our new report outlines policy interventions necessary for an effective response to this public health and economic crisis by examining the unique challenges confronting women of color.
The Women's Initiative is working extensively through our research and analysis, reports, advocacy, and coalition efforts to drive the conversation around the pandemic and reshape the national and local response to ensure that women's needs are front of mind.
Please stay tuned as we continue our work to prioritize women and women of color during this time of crisis.
Thank you for your continued support, and stay safe!

Vice President, Women’s Initiative

WATCH We contributed to the conversation through rapid response videos that highlight how long-standing structural inequities have created a landscape where women and their families are disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Watch the videos here and here.
