FL-27 Newsletter

Vol. 118, Issue #74

Dear Friends/Amigos,

I wanted to remind all of my constituents that applications for Service Academy nominations are due THIS FRIDAY, November 22, 2024 at 11:59pm ET. Remember that only the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy require nominations!

I also took the time to join my colleagues in denouncing the blatant political bias shown by some staff at FEMA towards those who voted for President-elect Trump. Read more about the letter we sent to FEMA Administrator Criswell about the matter below!

It is an honor to serve you in Congress. As always, if you would like to leave me and my office a comment, call (202) 225-3931.

Sincerely/Atentamente,

María E. Salazar

U.S. Representative (FL-27)

APPLICATIONS FOR SERVICE ACADEMY NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

Are you a high school student in Florida's 27th Congressional District interested in serving your country at one of the United States' five Service Academies (the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, or U.S. Merchant Marine Academy)?

My Congressional Office is continuing to accept applications for nominations for these Service Academies from now until Friday, November 22, 2024 at 11:59pm EST.

Remember that nominations from a Member of Congress are required for all service academies except for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. For more information on qualifications for a nomination, click HERE.

DEMANDING ANSWERS FROM FEMA FOR POLITICAL BIAS AGAINST TRUMP VOTERS!

Disaster relief should ALWAYS be nonpartisan, especially when it comes to distributing resources after a hurricane occurs.

According to recent reports, some supervisors at FEMA were given the explicit order to AVOID homes in Florida and the Carolinas with signs of support for President-elect Trump in the wake of Hurricane Milton. This is completely un-American.

I joined more than 50 of my colleagues in the House of Representatives in a letter to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell demanding an answer for this cruel directive.

CELEBRATING NATIONAL YOUTH CAREGIVER WEEK IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES!

I joined my colleagues Reps. Lois Frankel (D-FL) and Barbara Lee (R-CA) in introducing a bipartisan resolution to honor to recognize the week of November 11-17, 2024 as National Caregiving Youth Week!

Caregiving youth refers to children and adolescents under age 18 who serve as primary or secondary caregivers for family or household members who are aging, have a chronic illness, disability, frailty, or other health condition requiring regular assistance. It is estimated that there are over 5 million caregiving youth nationwide.

This resolution honors those youth for their commitment to caring for their loved ones and family members at such a young age.
