Dear John:

Under the current administration, we have seen how rampant the politicization and weaponization of the federal government truly is. The Department of Justice (DOJ) approved a blatantly political indictment of the President Biden's opponent. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) covered up criminal action by the president's family. And, it has been confirmed that a rank-and-file Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) employee gave orders to ignore helping people who support Donald Trump.

The games being played by career bureaucrats are not just contributing to a bloated, inefficient federal government, they are hurting average Americans.

I am excited to change all that alongside my House Republican colleagues, a Republican-controlled Senate, and the Trump Administration. Together, we are going to ensure responsible and effective governance. We are also going to work towards securing the border, extending vital tax policies that help our families, farms, and small businesses, and bolstering the U.S. economy.

I especially want to congratulate the House Republican leadership team, including Minnesota's own Majority Whip Tom Emmer. I am eager to get to work to get this country back on track.

House Passes Social Security Fairness Act

Right now, if a person works as a public servant - police officer or firefighter, for example - and also works a part time job or takes a second job after service, their Social Security benefits are reduced under the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). Spouses of public servants also receive reduced benefits if the job is not covered by Social Security under the Government Pension Offset (GPO).

Earlier this Congress, the House Ways and Means Committee held a hearing on WEP and GPO reforms. I am proud to say that this past week a bipartisan majority of the House passed the Social Security Fairness Act to support public servants by eliminating both the WEP and the GPO.

Supporting Legislation that Supports our Ag Workers

Last week I cosponsored five pieces of legislation that to support our agricultural industry and rural communities.

The PRECISE Act incentivizes precision agriculture practices by including eligibility for precision agriculture within existing USDA conservation programs. The Rural Telehealth and Education Enhancement Act would extend USDA’s Distance Learning and Telemedicine Program through Fiscal Year 2028.The Community College Agriculture Advancement Act Act introduces capacity-building grants specifically for community college agriculture and natural resource programs to ensure a continuous supply of trained agricultural workers. The Foreign Animal Disease Prevention, Surveillance, and Rapid Response Act makes investments for the ag industry to aid in prevention, response, and the mitigation of foreign animal diseaseAnd, the Securing American Agriculture Act aims to assess and bolster the agricultural supply chain and provide the necessary tools for proactive supply chain management, especially from the Chinese Communist Party.
