Message from your local St Ann's ward Councillors

We hope this email finds you and your families well. As your local ward Councillors we wish to let you know that you are not alone in this crisis and that your City Council continues to work hard to help those who need it most.

We know the last couple of months have been unprecedented but we would like to thank you for your resilience during this time and for helping slow the spread of Covid-19 by following the Government rules.

In St Ann’s we, as your local Councillors, have been liaising with council officers to keep up to date with the latest information and continuing to support residents.

Our ward has some very resourceful residents and groups who are willing to go the extra mile, picking up shopping and prescriptions for those unable to leave the house. Local businesses across the ward have also offered support during this time of need.

One thing that has been essential for vulnerable people during this period has been the St Ann’s food bank. it’s especially vital at a time like this and without them the consequences could well be deadly as people’s incomes are hit hard by the crisis.

We would like to thank everyone who supported and donated to the recent fundraiser and encourage people to continue donating in order to help keep its important work going.

Finally we would also like to pass on our heartfelt thanks to all those NHS staff, key workers, volunteers and carers. We are grateful for the work they are doing to help protect vulnerable people in our community, often putting themselves at risk. We hope everyone shares our gratitude for them and their work.

Please continue to follow the latest guidance and stay safe during this time.

Cllr Sue Johnson, Cllr Chantal Lee and Cllr Dave Liverisdge

How we have helped support people in St Ann's

Our teams have been busy helping hundreds of people get the support they need during the coronavirus pandemic.

We have worked with partners across the neighbourhood to help those in need.

Here's an example of the work we’ve been doing

We have helped a St Ann’s resident, who is on his own since his wife died and he called the Council's helpline for support. We put in place arrangements for a warm meal to be provided once a week and for Age UK to find a befriender, who now also helps with shopping. He has called back to say that the arrangements are working very well. The befriender calls regularly, becoming a genuine friend, and he is now less lonely.

He wanted the team to know how well it had turned out and how grateful he was. He has now passed the helpline number on to a neighbour who needs help too.

How you can get help!

A range of support is available for people in Nottingham – from asking good neighbours to pick up some essentials, all the way through to NHS Shielding Measures and Adult Social Care support.

If you are self-isolating, and have no other means of support, you can call the Council. We can deliver a food parcel to your door for a small charge – parcels are free for extremely vulnerable people in NHS Shielding Measures. Simply call the Council’s Customer Hub on 0115 915 5555. This line is open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday or you can complete the online form at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/coronavirus

Want to volunteer? If you would like to help your community by delivering food packages or providing phone support, please become a volunteer with Nottingham Community and Voluntary Service www.nottinghamcvs.co.uk/volunteering/want-to-volunteer

Want more than a food parcel? Our Meals at Home service provides single person and family food options as well as vegan and vegetarian meals – everything can be delivered frozen ready for you to cook at home or hot meals can be delivered too. If you have an elderly or vulnerable relative, ordering a regular delivery can help you to feel better, knowing a hot meal has been delivered to your loved one by our friendly team.
