Hi there, it’s VA State Senator Ghazala Hashmi. I'm a Democrat running for Lt. Governor of Virginia in 2025. 

I decided to run for Lieutenant Governor because I care deeply about our Commonwealth’s future. I know what it takes to build an economy that can support families for generations to come.

My experience as a mother of two and as a daughter who has cared for aging loved ones has left me with a deep appreciation for the importance that the care economy plays in Virginia’s economic growth. 

But Virginia Republicans and Governor Youngkin are standing in the way of progress on this issue and so many others. I refuse to sit idly by and let them get away with it, but I need your help to take a stand and build a brighter future for our Commonwealth. Here’s the bottom line: We must expand access to quality childcare, ensure that families are supported with home healthcare and elder care, and compensate domestic workers at the levels they deserve. 

Workers must also be given the opportunity to bargain collectively for fair pay, the benefits they deserve, and safe workplaces. A living wage is a fundamental right for workers and their families.

That’s my vision for Virginia, and I’d be honored to have you join me in fighting for the future that our families and workers deserve.
