Dear John,
We’ve been keeping you in the loop on the Manchin/Barrasso Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024, the dirty deal that fast tracks fossil fuel projects by eliminating community decision-making power—and ways to take action, especially as we must fight as hard as we can now, anticipating the road ahead that will continue to put our hard fought environmental justice policies at risk. See our [factsheet about the dirty deal here]([link removed]).
This week, we have to increase the pressure to remind Congress who they work for, as it gets closer to the voting floor. Senator Manchin says that Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer “supports a push to pass a permitting bill in the lame duck session to make it easier to build energy projects.” [from Politico’s “Morning Energy” 11.15 newsletter] But let’s keep it real: “making it easier” to build “energy projects” aka extractive fossil fuel infrastructure is at the sacrifice of our livelihoods and the very rights and the health of our already overburdened communities.
