An update from the office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino
"
A group of New York Republicans wrote a letter to Trump asking him to use the power of the federal government to reverse what they called a wrongly-accelerated process by the Biden administration. 'Congestion pricing has only moved forward due to the MTA [Metropolitan Transportation Authority] and Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) manipulation of the FHWA’s Value Pricing Pilot Program (VPPP), a pilot program initially authorized by Congress over three decades ago in 1991,' the letter read…Congestion pricing would institute a video-enforced toll at newly-built gantries surrounding the city’s core. Traffic moving below 60th Street and Central Park, and entering from New Jersey, Brooklyn or Queens — except for via the RFK Triboro Bridge and George Washington Bridge — would be subject to the toll. The lawmakers, including Rep. Michael Lawler of Rockland County, Nicole Malliotakis of Staten Island, and Andrew Garbarino, Nick LaLota and Anthony D’Esposito of Long Island, called on Trump to respond. 'Congestion pricing, the latest in a long string of tyrannical taxes, has been pressed forward through consistent opposition about the burden on New York families and workers, the timing of the effort, areas lacking adequate transit, the fiscal responsibility of the move, the negative impact that congestion pricing will have on residents of some of the lowest-income neighborhoods in New York City and more,' they wrote.

CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Securing A Swift Solution
| |
A week before her trip to Canada with her daughter to see Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour, a constituent realized her REAL ID wouldn’t allow her to cross the border, and her passport had expired in 2019. She contacted Andrew's office for help given the imminent travel date. Andrew’s casework team quickly arranged an in-person passport appointment at the New York City passport office, ensuring she’d be set for travel and make it to the concert with her daughter.
Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case.

Andrew Pushes Back Against Hochul’s Congestion Pricing Plan
Andrew is taking a stand against Governor Hochul’s harmful congestion pricing plan, joining fellow New York representatives in a direct appeal to President Trump to step in and halt this burdensome proposal. If implemented, the plan would slap a $9 daily fee on hardworking New Yorkers driving into certain parts of the city—unfairly targeting middle-class commuters. The Members wrote, "As you well know, Mr. President, New York State and its government constantly overreach in every aspect of government, and this is no less true than in the oppressive taxation regime Kathy Hochul has instilled. Congestion pricing, the latest in a long string of tyrannical taxes, has been pressed forward through consistent opposition about the burden on New York families and workers, the timing of the effort, areas lacking adequate transit, the fiscal responsibility of the move, the negative impact that congestion pricing will have on residents of some of the lowest-income neighborhoods in New York City, and more." House Passes Social Security Fairness Act
This week the House passed H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act. Andrew co-sponsored and voted for this legislation, which repeals the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) — provisions that have reduced Social Security benefits for retirees, particularly public servants such as teachers, police officers, and firefighters. By eliminating these outdated rules, Andrew is proud to support fairer retirement benefits for those who dedicated their careers to serving their communities.
