Transparency and accountability must be paramount in our future pandemic response. The American people lost a lot of faith in their government and in their leaders, and they had every right to. Listen to my thoughts on this at this week’s COVID Select Subcommittee hearing below:

Get the Facts: FEMA Failure!

Recently, it came to the public and Congress’ attention that FEMA Administrators gave guidance for emergency responders to avoid homes advertising their support for President Trump. These orders were known to have been given to emergency crews participating in hurricane relief efforts in Florida and elsewhere. While crews were told the orders were given to “keep the team safe,” there have been no reports of FEMA crews having their lives threatened by supporters of President Trump based on perceived political affiliation. Therefore, this week, I was proud to cosign a letter with Rep. Vern Buchanan to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell to get to the bottom of the matter and ensure political discrimination does not continue to occur as a part of our country’s disaster relief efforts. No American, regardless of political affiliation, should have to suffer the consequences of a natural disaster when there are resources available to help them. This never should have happened.

Casework Highlight

A Constituent contacted our office after waiting since January for their IRS tax refund.  We contacted the IRS on the constituents behalf, and discovered it was on hold for a possible identity issue. We helped the constituent provide required documentation and the refund was released.

Around the District

I had a great time at the Surprise, Arizona Veterans Day Parade! Freedom isn’t free, THANK A VETERAN!

As always, my office is here to help. Both my Surprise district office and Washington, D.C. office are serving constituents through the end of my term. We are available over the phone at 623-776-7911. Please note, however, that my Surprise Office and my Washington, D.C. office are now closed for in-person meetings because of the transition to Congressman-Elect Hamadeh.

As always, be safe and stay well.

May God continue to bless you and our great Nation.

Sincerely,

Congresswoman Debbie Lesko
