Cynthia Lummis - Senator for Wyoming
The Equality State Honors
Trailblazer Dessie A. Bebout
Courage and commitment are just a few
words that come to mind when describing Wyoming's Dessie Bebout.
Dessie was one of the first Wyoming women to enlist in World War II
and paved the way for women across the nation to follow suit. Dessie
then came back home and dedicated 13 years to serve as Shoshoni's
Postmaster.
After decades of service to the state, Dessie passed
away last year at the age of 102. To honor her legacy, U.S. Senators
John Barrasso, Tom Carper and I introduced a bill to name the local
post office in Shoshoni after Dessie Bebout. With Rep. Harriet
Hageman's support, the bill passed unanimously in the House and is
headed to the President's desk to be signed into law.
Dessie was a
pioneer and embodied what it means to be a Wyoming woman. Because of
her military and civic service, she was awarded the Wyoming Women of
Distinction Award from the Wyoming Council for Women and the Medal of
Honor from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Honoring Dessie
by renaming this post office is the least we can do to memorialize her
dedication to our state.

Lummis' Week in Pictures
I had a great meeting today with
Ambassador Cho of the Republic of Korea. I enjoyed visiting with him
about the important relationship between our nations and I even
offered him some book recommendations! The Ambassador and I both look
forward to the exciting future of digital assets!

and is enrolled in a Wyoming public high school.

Legislative
Actions
Last week, Americans chose a new path forward by electing
President Trump back into the White House and delivering Republican
control to the U.S. Senate and House. To fulfill the mandate of the
American people, I, along with 52 of my Senate Republican colleagues,
elected new Senate leadership. During the last few days,
I have
appreciated the input and interest from folks throughout the state
making their voices heard ahead of these leadership elections. With my
dear friend Sen. John Barrasso as the Senate whip, I have no doubt
that we will make President Trump's agenda to restore our economy,
secure our borders and unleash American energy a reality, and I look
forward to working with the new Senate leadership team to ease the
burden the Biden-Harris administration forced upon the Cowboy
State.

Joel C., a middle school student from Cheyenne,
represented the Cowboy State at the 2024 National Civics Bee! Joel
showcased his passion for American democracy by competing against
middle school students across the country. He also gained valuable

community and civics exemplifies Wyoming's promise for our future
leaders. Congratulations, Joel!
