These numbers are heartbreaking.
Hi John, This is deeply tragic. This week, Oregon Health Authority (OHA) updated its 2023 abortion records. - The data show that Oregon abortion providers performed the highest number of abortions in a single year since 2009.
- 10,075 unborn lives were violently ended through abortion last year compared to 8,672 in 2022, a 16.2% increase.
- 225 of them were 23 weeks gestational age or
older, meaning they were well-developed and may have been able to survive outside the womb. In 2022, that number was 85. That's a 165% increase in late-term abortions in 2023 compared to the prior year.
- 1,661 abortions were performed for women who traveled to Oregon from out of state, compared to 1,036 in 2022 – a 60% increase. 381 of those out-of-state resident abortions occurred in Eastern Oregon’s Malheur County, where Planned Parenthood opened a clinic to prey on women from our pro-life neighbor, Idaho. Malheur County had no reported abortions in 2022.
These numbers are heartbreaking. The 225 tiny, innocent, pain-capable human beings who suffered late-term abortions last year experienced either cardiac arrest or brutal dismemberment at the hands of Oregon’s abortion providers. Radical politicians and the abortion lobby like to try to convince people that late-term abortions don’t happen. But the Oregon Health Authority data show that isn’t true. Abortion is legal in Oregon up to the moment of birth for any reason. Oregon Right to Life is the only organization in the state pushing back on abortion extremism in the legislature. Please consider contributing to this vital mission. Your support will help us … - Put forward life-affirming legislation like the Born Alive Infant Protection Act and the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect these babies
- Lobby our legislators to support and put forward pro-life protections
- Watch for bad bills that would further endanger unborn lives
- Keep you informed about what’s happening in the legislature
Unlike the abortion industry, we receive no government funds and rely on the support and generosity of pro-life Oregonians like you to continue working to protect the innocent unborn. I am so grateful for your support. Because everyone deserves an advocate, Lois Anderson
