John, I feel like I’ve lived a lifetime in the last eleven days since Election Day.
I know there’s so much uncertainty about this election and the future in our democracy right now, but I could not be prouder of Common Cause’s efforts.
Thanks to you, we built an unmatched Election Protection effort, fielding more volunteers than any year besides 2020, and giving them the training, equipment, and resources they needed to assist thousands of voters. It was our only option given everything we were up against.
So, while we respect the will of the voters, we must also face the fact that Trump’s actions and promises threaten the core principles of our democracy.
As a twice-impeached former president with multiple felony charges, his return to office brings unprecedented risks to our nation’s foundational values.
Adding to these concerns is the looming influence of Project 2025, an initiative designed to reshape the federal government by consolidating executive power and weakening the checks and balances that define our democracy.
President-elect Trump’s agenda will require a near-unanimous support from his party in Congress to implement. Now more than ever, our nonpartisan effort to support a bold, pro-democracy agenda could be the last line of defense against his extremist policies.
We have a track record of defeating Trump and we’re ready to do it again. With your help, we shut down the Pence-Kobach voter suppression commission, defended the Mueller investigation against partisan attacks, and upheld our right to vote by mail during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a Common Cause member, you’re part of an organization that knows how to win and has proven it over and over in tough times. Common Cause members have changed the course of history before. We’re being called upon to do so once again. And we must be ready. Thank you for answering this call to action.
What we do next will determine the shape of American democracy for decades to come and I can’t think of a better challenge to take on. Can I count on you to support our efforts to ensure our team is ready to defend our democracy wherever we’re needed?
