Hey John,
After the defeat of H.R. 9495 this week in a parliamentary procedure requiring a two-thirds majority, Republicans are already plotting a second attempt to push it through.
Congress is set to vote again on Monday, and we need to ensure they don’t have the votes to pass this dangerous bill.
As a reminder, here’s why H.R. 9495 is so dangerous:
🚩 Unchecked Power: Trump and his Treasury Department would have sweeping authority to label U.S. nonprofits as “terrorist-supporting organizations”—no oversight, no due process, just unilateral power.
🚩Political Targeting: Under this bill, nonprofits advocating for human rights, environmental protection, reproductive rights, and other critical issues could lose their tax-exempt status simply for opposing Trump’s Project 2025 agenda.
🚩Chilling Effect: This broad and vague authority could intimidate organizations and stifle advocacy work. Nonprofits would risk financial ruin just for standing up for our basic rights and freedoms.
In struggle,
Women’s March

Hey John,
In less than 24 hours, over 20,000 of you took action—and together, we defeated H.R. 9495. This bill, which would have given Trump the power to dismantle nonprofits he views as political adversaries, was stopped in its tracks because of our unified front.

This victory shows that when we come together, we win. It demonstrates that women will protect our democracy and defend our freedoms. And as we face new challenges, we’ll continue to rise up, stronger than ever.
Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll build the largest, strongest “we” yet—to protect each other, defend our freedoms, and secure our families’ futures. This is only the beginning.
Thank you for taking action and chipping in to power our fight toward a feminist future that works for all of us. We’re here because of you, John.
In solidarity and gratitude,
Women's March
