On Monday, Governor Walz attended Veterans Day ceremonies at the Minnesota National Guard Ben Franklin Readiness Center and the Minneapolis Veterans Home.
*"Minnesota is home to nearly 300,000 veterans who have put their lives on the line to defend our state, our country, and the principles of freedom and liberty for all,"* said Governor Walz. *"To all who served: thank you."*

Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Announce Minnesota Ranked a Top State for Children

On Wednesday, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced that SmileHub has ranked Minnesota as a top state for children. The scorecard ranked states across four areas: health and wellness, support system strength, education system, and family and working life.

From our nation-leading child tax credit to historic investments in education and child care, we’re making an effort to help families where it matters the most,"* said Governor Walz. *"The data shows that our efforts are paying off in working toward our goal of making Minnesota the best state in the nation for children."*

Governor Walz Announces $112 Million in Federal Funds to Keep Minnesota Homes Warm this Winter

On Thursday, Governor Walz announced $112 million in federal funds awarded to the Minnesota Energy Assistance Program, administered by the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Funding will provide energy assistance to income-eligible Minnesota homeowners and renters to help keep their homes warm this winter.
*"In our coldest months, higher utility bills can put a strain on Minnesotans’ budgets," *said Governor Walz.* "Our Energy Assistance Program makes a big difference in alleviating this pressure, ensuring that Minnesotans get the help they need to make it comfortably through the winter. This funding will continue to lower costs and keep Minnesotans safe."*

Governor Walz Announces $6 Million to Help Aging Minnesotans Stay in Their Homes

On Friday, Governor Walz announced over $6 million in new state grants to keep Minnesotans in their homes as they age. The Live Well at Home grants will support more than 30 organizations, funding services such as retrofitting residences to make them age-friendly and providing support for caregivers.
*"Living at home provides people with identity, comfort, and community,"* said Governor Walz. *"As so many families know, the choice to move, or have a family member move, to a nursing home can be an extremely difficult one. These grants are helping older adults maintain their independence and significantly improve quality of life for Minnesotans as they age."*
