We are in a difficult political moment, John, and one where Brady’s work is more important than ever. During Donald Trump’s first term as president, our country saw the largest increase in violence in modern history and guns became the leading cause of death for children and teens. But Brady didn’t give up then, and we won’t give up now.

We know that despite the outcome of this election, 90% of Americans are in favor of stronger gun safety laws, including an overwhelming number of Republicans and gun owners. The American people are united in demanding an end to this crisis of gun violence and Brady, as the nation’s oldest and longest-persevering gun violence prevention organization, will answer the call.

Even in an election that Donald Trump won, gun violence prevention was victorious down the ballot. Just take a look at these achievements [[link removed]] :

✅ In Colorado, a ballot initiative called ‘Prop KK’ passed, creating a small tax on state gun and ammunition sales to generate an estimated $39 million each year to fund support services for veterans, youth, victims of domestic violence and gun violence, and more.

✅ [[link removed]] In New York, Brady Campaign-endorsed candidate Laura Gillen defeated one of the gun lobby’s top allies, Anthony D’Espisito, ushering in a new age for gun violence prevention.

✅ [[link removed]] In Tennessee, Brady Campaign-endorsed candidate and gun violence survivor Shaundelle Brooks was elected to Tennessee's State House.

✅ [[link removed]] In Florida, Brady Campaign-endorsed candidate and gun violence champion Maxwell Frost was reelected to the U.S. House of Representatives, continuing his stance as first member of Generation Z elected to Congress.

✅ [[link removed]] A number of Brady Campaign-endorsed candidate had historic wins that broke through barriers, including Sarah McBride becoming the first openly trans woman elected to Congress, Andy Kim becoming the first Korean-American senator, and Lisa Blunt Rochester and Angela Alsobrooks becoming the first time two Black women will serve together in the U.S. Senate.

These were just some of the victories we saw on election night. But these gun violence prevention champions will need more support than ever to make progress and protect our nation’s gun laws. And Brady will be there for them.

As we gear up for the fight of our lives, will you consider supporting our life-saving efforts with a gift today? You can count on Brady to continue to hold the line and fight for a future free from gun violence. [[link removed]]

Team ENOUGH, Brady’s youth-led initiative, just opened applications for its Youth Advocacy Training Program in Virginia and Michigan! Our program is the only national, youth-led group that trains and mobilizes young people to meet with lawmakers and push for critical gun reform measures. Advocating for gun safety laws on the state level will be paramount as we face an uphill battle in Congress — and you can help.

Will you consider sharing our application with a young person (ages 13-26) and encourage them to apply today? With gun violence as the leading cause of death for American youth, it’s vital for lawmakers to hear directly from young people on this issue. [[link removed]]

Celebrating Transgender Awareness Week

[link removed] [[link removed]]

This week is Transgender Awareness Week, a time to celebrate trans visibility and joy while standing against hatred in all its forms. And there’s no better way to celebrate than with the recent election of Brady Campaign endorsed candidate Sarah McBride to the U.S. House of Representatives for Delaware’s second Congressional District, making her the first out transgender person elected to Congress.
Sarah is a gun violence prevention champion and we need her voice in Congress now, especially as the transgender community is disproportionately impacted by gun violence. Data shows that the majority of homicides of transgender and non-gender-conforming people involve a firearm, and LGBTQ+ people are 2.5 times more likely [[link removed]] to be victims of violence involving a weapon than straight, cisgender people.

We will continue to fight for gun violence prevention and to stop all forms of hate alongside leaders like Rep. Sarah McBride. Five Years Later: Remembering the Victims of the Saugus High School Shooting

On November 14, 2019, a teen shot and killed two students and injured three others at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, CA. Mia Tretta, a member of the Team ENOUGH Executive Council [[link removed]] , was shot in the stomach, and her best friend, 14-year-old Dominic Blackwell was killed that day. It happened in only seconds, but lives were changed forever.

The shooter used a ghost gun [[link removed]] to carry out this attack, an unserialized (and therefore untraceable) firearm put together by components purchased either as a kit or as separate pieces. Before action by the Biden administration, ghost guns didn’t require background checks and therefore had become the weapon of choice for prohibited gun purchasers and young people like the 16-year-old teen who carried out the attack at Saugus High School.

Since the shooting, Mia has been a fierce advocate demanding action to crack down on deadly ghost guns. She has testified in support of state and national policies to regulate ghost guns and joined President Biden in announcing major White House action to clamp down on the weapons. We thank Mia for her tireless advocacy and for fighting for a future free of gun violence.

In honor of the victims of the Saugus High School shooting, please join us in taking action. You can find ways to act on our website or join Brady and Team ENOUGH’s work.
