We are in a difficult political moment, friend, and one where Brady’s work is more important than ever. During Donald Trump’s first term as president, our country saw the largest increase in violence in modern history and guns became the leading cause of death for children and teens.
But Brady didn’t give up then, and we won’t give up now.
We know that despite the outcome of this election, 90% of Americans are in favor of stronger gun safety laws, including an overwhelming number of Republicans and gun owners. The American people are united in demanding an end to this crisis of gun violence and Brady, as the nation’s oldest and longest-persevering gun violence prevention organization, will answer the call.
Even in an election that Donald Trump won, gun violence prevention was victorious down the ballot. Just take a look at these achievements:
✅ In Colorado, a ballot initiative called ‘Prop KK’ passed, creating a small tax on state gun and ammunition sales to generate an estimated $39 million each year to fund support services for veterans, youth, victims of domestic violence and gun violence, and more.
✅ In New York, Brady Campaign-endorsed candidate Laura Gillen defeated one of the gun lobby’s top allies, Anthony D’Espisito, ushering in a new age for gun violence prevention.
✅ In Tennessee, Brady Campaign-endorsed candidate and gun violence survivor Shaundelle Brooks was elected to Tennessee's State House.
✅ In Florida, Brady Campaign-endorsed candidate and gun violence champion Maxwell Frost was reelected to the U.S. House of Representatives, continuing his stance as first member of Generation Z elected to Congress.
✅ A number of Brady Campaign-endorsed candidates had historic wins that broke through barriers, including Sarah McBride becoming the first openly trans woman elected to Congress, Andy Kim becoming the first Korean-American senator, and Lisa Blunt Rochester and Angela Alsobrooks becoming the first time two Black women will serve together in the U.S. Senate.
These were just some of the victories we saw on election night. But these gun violence prevention champions will need more support than ever to make progress and protect our nation’s gun laws. And Brady will be there for them.
As we gear up for the fight of our lives, will you consider supporting our life-saving efforts with a gift today? You can count on Brady to continue to hold the line and fight for a future free from gun violence.
