Dear neighbor,
Thank you for re-electing me to the House of Representatives. It is the honor of my life to serve as your voice in Congress.
The national election results were not what many of us expected nor worked for. I believe the first order of business now is to listen. To listen and learn from you, my constituents, my colleagues and the American people. I look forward to engaging with as many people as possible as we chart a path forward.
In the meantime I offer this historical observation: in a country as large and diverse as America, there are no permanent electoral victories. After the 2004 elections, President Bush had a governing trifecta. Four years later, President Obama had a trifecta. After 2016, President Trump had a trifecta. Two years later Democrats regained the House majority, and by 2020, President Biden had a trifecta.
This past Wednesday we welcomed new freshman Members to the House Democratic Caucus. I am inspired by their energy, enthusiasm and experiences. The House Democratic Caucus defied political gravity in a challenging national environment and did not lose any net seats. Votes continue to be counted and it is possible House Democrats may even gain a seat in the House.

ENERGY IMPROVEMENTS: As temperatures dip and we head into the holiday season, you might be planning to upgrade your home’s heating and air conditioning systems! Energy-efficient upgrades can help lower utility bills and may come with tax rebates. Visit the Department of Energy’s Savings Hub to learn more about tax savings opportunities for energy upgrades!
ICYMI: I recently visited the site of devastating landslides in the Palos Verdes Peninsula to assess the damage and hear from impacted residents. Together with Senator-elect Schiff and state and local offices, we are making every effort to assist those affected by the recent dramatic land movement.
House Democrats are in listening mode. We’re listening to the American people about the issues that matter most to them. At this week’s House Democratic Caucus Leadership press conference, Chairman Pete Aguilar and I laid out our plans to continue our work for all Americans.
I look forward to updating you again soon.
Warmly,
Ted
