Have you ever heard of the legend of Caligula?
Caligula, the Roman Emperor who ruled from approximately 37 - 41 AD, wanted to nominate his favorite horse, Incitatus, as a Roman Consul. You had to be a Roman Senator at the time to be a Consul. This was a way to show how demeaned and degraded the Roman Senate had become. It was a slight to the Senators and elites.
This story reminds me of American politics today. We are going to see if the American Senate is going to stand up and reject two people - Tulsi Gabbard and Matt Gaetz - who are totally unqualified and unfit professionally and lacking the moral characteristics you need in order to have these jobs.
The vote should be 100-0 against both of them.
It's typical for most senior officials to have a full field investigation but it’s imperative especially for these two. In the case of Gaetz, the House Ethics Committee is about to issue a difficult report. In Tulsi Gabbard’s case, she blamed the Russian invasion of Ukraine on chemical weapons plants in Ukraine, which were joint U.S. and Ukrainian efforts. She said she wasn’t convinced by the briefings and called eliminating Qasem Soleimani an “illegal and unconstitutional act of war by Donald Trump”. This is insane.
It’s clear Trump hasn’t vetted these two at all. I hope the Senate does the right thing. |
