New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) issued the following statement after the House Republican Conference officially secured the House majority in the 119th Congress:
“While we are disappointed with the results of the 2024 election, New Dems are immensely proud of our Members and Members-elect who focused on a common-sense message that resonated with constituents. Despite our efforts, Democrats will not hold the majority in the 119th Congress – but with a razor-thin House Republican majority, there’s still so much we can and must do for the American people.
“In the 119th Congress, New Dems will have at least 23 new Members-elect and 109 Members. United behind Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, New Dems will work to hold House Republicans accountable and reach across the aisle whenever possible to get things done.
“Our Coalition is the biggest it’s ever been because New Dems listen to their constituents and know how to talk to Americans about the issues that matter most to them, including affordability, border security, and public safety. Now, they’re looking to Congress to deliver solutions, and though we won’t set the agenda in the House, New Dems are dedicated to working with anyone to tackle these issues head on.”

New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) issued a statement ahead of the Coalition’s orientation for incoming New Dems. New Democrat Coalition Members and staff will join panelists to discuss setting policy goals, achieving congressional wins, building out a new office, navigating the Committee steering process, utilizing franking for constituent communications, and more.
This incoming New Dem class is among the largest in the Coalition’s history, bringing the number of New Dem Members to at least 107, and likely larger as races continue to be called. Out of the Democratic House ideological caucuses, New Dems have one of the biggest freshman classes for the 119th Congress.
“New Dems are thrilled to welcome our incoming class of Members for the 119th Congress. Each of these new Members shares New Dems’ commonsense approach to politics and commitment to breaking through the gridlock in DC to deliver results for hardworking Americans,” said Chair Kuster. “In the upcoming Congress, we will face many critical policy battles, including on taxes, infrastructure, the Farm Bill, and more. With this new talented, experienced and diverse class of legislators, we will be well-prepared for the work ahead.”
