A MESSAGE FROM ACTING ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL
BRENT J. COHEN

This has been a year of major milestones for the Office of Justice Programs. We’ve celebrated the 50th anniversary of our Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. We commemorated 40 years since the passage of the Victims of Crime Act, which set up the Crime Victims Fund. And yesterday, we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Bureau of Justice Assistance, recognizing four decades of innovative work to advance public safety and equal justice.

From supporting constitutional policing, to pioneering practices that better serve individuals with behavioral health needs, to scaling up reentry programming through signature initiatives like the Second Chance Act, BJA has been an indispensable partner to justice practitioners nationwide. The celebration brought together current and former directors whose collective leadership has helped make BJA a go-to resource for communities seeking solutions to their most pressing public safety challenges.
