Email from Rep. Van Duyne House Republicans are hitting the groud running...   Washington, D.C. - On Veterans Day, we took a moment to thank all who have courageously served our country. We will never forget the sacrifices made to protect our freedoms. I was honored to be joined by so many North Texas heroes at our recent veterans luncheon. Click here to view photos from the event. Tuesday, I supported the Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act to remove the generous tax benefits afforded to nonprofits that fund terrorism. Unfortunately, 70% of Democrats teamed up to defeat this important bill. On Wednesday morning, I joined my colleagues to speak with President-elect Trump about our 2025 priorities. Over the last two years, we've passed strong legislation to cut taxes, slash red tape, and secure the border. Unfortunately, these bills have failed in the Democrat-run Senate. We're looking forward to hitting the ground running with President Trump to deliver real solutions to Americans! After, I had the honor of hosting Texas-24 native, Staff Sergeant Graham Scott, at the Capitol for his reenlistment into the United States Army! I thanked him and his wife for their service to our great nation. Later, I visited with students from my former high school, Greenhill School in Addison! We had a great conversation about public policy and opportunities for civic engagement. I began Thursday by meeting with a Texas-24 resident, Ahmed Agha, who was in town with the American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative. We discussed innovations to improve the detection of lung cancer and my work to expand access to high-quality health care. Later that day, I visited with a fellow Texan and members of the Federalist Society. I was glad to hear about their work to protect free speech in European countries and share my efforts to preserve our constitutional rights. I headed to the House floor to vote for the HEATS Act to speed up U.S. energy production by streamlining geothermal energy infrastructure development. This morning, before heading home to Texas, I voted to give students, families, and schools much-needed clarity by ensuring the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is released and operational by October 1 every year. I’m pleased to share this was passed in a strong bipartisan vote of 381 to 1. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, I helped pass the Critical Mineral Consistency Act to bolster our critical mineral supply chain and reduce our reliance on Communist China. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is World War II veteran Bill Robertson of Bedford. Please help me wish him a Happy 100th Birthday!
