John,
There's no way to sugarcoat this moment. Despite some crucial wins by Democratic pro-choice women nationwide, we know that this year's the election results mean reproductive freedom is still in SERIOUS jeopardy.
But here's the thing: EMILYs List's mission is to build pro-choice women's political power over the long-term. Even (especially!) after heartbreaking election results, that fight continues.
In our 39 years as an organization, we've faced setbacks at the ballot box before. Years like 2004 and 2016 come to mind — elections when we did not get the results we wanted, so we regrouped and came back stronger. We have always been ready to keep fighting. Vice President Kamala Harris said it herself:
"Sometimes the fight takes a while. That doesn't mean we won't win."
And we know, John, that Democratic pro-choice women will lead the fight for our fundamental freedoms. After all, women have been at the forefront of some of the toughest battles this country has ever faced.
This election was a reminder that sometimes, the fight for progress hurts. Hillary Clinton made a big crack in the highest and hardest glass ceiling in politics, Kamala Harris made another one — and we know that one day, we'll shatter that ceiling into a million pieces once and for all.
We're so grateful for your support, and want you to know that EMILYs List was built for moments like this. We've been in tough fights before, and we are most certainly not backing down now.
Thank you,
the EMILYs List team
