Care is a universal experience. Whether we’re caring for children, aging parents, or loved ones with disabilities or providing care as professionals—care touches each of us. With over 105 million caregivers in the U.S., that’s more than 40% of the population. Yet, too often, the voices of caregivers are left out of policy decisions.

That’s why NDWA needs your help .

When you share your story [[link removed]] , you’re adding a powerful voice to our fight for real change. NDWA uses stories like yours to move hearts, change minds, and show lawmakers why they must invest in caregiving. Personal stories remind policymakers that behind every statistic is a family, a community, and a caregiver who deserves support .

My 2nd child was born with severe cerebral palsy. He was a wonderful baby who needed total care of his family. He continued to require more care as he grew. The last 3 and a half years of his life required that he be attached to a ventilator with 24 hour nursing services. I am an attorney who worked full time for the state Medicaid agency. Only by having the advantage of care staff was my family able to keep our child at home while keeping our needed income. My son qualified for a Medicaid waiver while thousands did not get enriched services. He loved his staff, he graduated from high school, and he had many friends among his staff. There is no way to substitute the care of good staff.

When we put names and faces to the statistics, we can build real momentum to make caregiving a national priority.

The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.

Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
