Professional development at OAH
OAH judges and staff participate in voluntary intercultural development training
Recently, OAH created a *voluntary* program that we called Intercultural Development with Awesome People *(iDAP!)*. 63% of OAH judges and staff participated to learn how to recognize the differences that matter and adapt their behavior to meet the needs of someone else.
What we did
Each participant completed:
* Two assessments with coaching from a qualified professional:
* Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI)
* Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory (ICS)
* Four half-day trainings:
* Foundations of Intercultural Competence
* Intercultural Communication Tools
* Intercultural Conflict Dimensions and Styles
* Power, Privilege, and Procedural Fairness
Why?
Our project goals were:
* Develop greater awareness of your culture and preferred way of doing things.
* Learn how to address fraught or challenging topics with curiosity and authenticity.
* Learn what to do when unintended offense has occurred.
How does this impact me?
We hope that this professional development furthers our goal of an accessible, fair, and just process for all in our hearing rooms and our workplace. When applicable, we will incorporate what we learned into court processes.
