Dear John,

Our Southern California communities owe a great deal to our local veterans and public servants, who have and continue to sacrifice to keep us safe. The service of our EMTs, veterans, teachers, and so many more make our region the incredible place it is.

In Congress, I'm so proud to fight for these local heroes and hear their stories.
This week while back in Washington, I had the chance to meet a local paramedic, vote to protect Social Security benefits for public servants, and more.

Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my FacebookInstagram, and X to get these updates in real-time.

Honoring Southern California Veterans

On Monday, we celebrated Veterans Day, a chance to reflect on and thank the veterans throughout our nation's history and in our community.

This year, I joined veterans in Fountain Valley's Veterans Park to thank them for their time and courage in the military, and for the work they continue to do here at home.

I'm so proud to represent such incredible Southern California heroes in Congress and fight for their needs, like improving VA care and enhancing GI bill benefits. You can learn more about my work supporting veterans here

Thank you to all of our nation's veterans and Happy Veterans Day!

Fighting CCP Influence in Our Universities

As your Congresswoman, I continue to fight to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for the war they’ve waged on our way of life. Unfortunately, many of American universities have fallen under the influence of the Chinese Communist Party, posing a threat to national security.

This week, I sat down with Fox News to talk about my work to combat the CCP's influence on universities like UC Berkley and UCLA. Organizations like Confucius Institutes have actively distributed CCP propaganda to our university students. In Congress, I'm working to end CCP influence in our universities with legislation like my DETERRENT Act, which would require universities to be transparent about the gifts they receive from foreign nations. I’ve passed this legislation through the House of Representatives, and am working to advance the DETERRENT Act through the Senate.

Meeting Our Local Heroes

First responders are critical to public safety in our community. These brave heroes risk their own lives and safety to protect us when we need them most.

This week, I had the chance to meet EMT professional and Buena Park resident Phillip Neff. Recently, Phillip received the Stars of Life Award for his exemplary work in a challenging situation involving a patient who suffered a stroke.

Heroes like Phillip save lives each and every day in our community and it was an honor to meet him.

Defending Your Social Security

American workers who have paid into Social Security deserve their benefits when they need them most, especially if they have served our community in roles like teachers, nurses, and police officers.

This week, I was proud to vote for H.R. 82, which will ensure such public servants will receive the full Social Security benefits that they have paid into and worked hard for.

Social Security is a critical element to many Americans' livelihoods. In Congress, I will always fight to preserve Californian's Social Security benefits. You can learn more about my work, including defense of Social Security, here

UCLA slammed for ‘chaotic’ response to protest melee in UC independent review

Image

"UCLA failed to protect students from a protest melee this spring because a “highly chaotic” decision-making process, lack of communication among campus leaders and police, and other shortfalls led to institutional paralysis, according to a University of California independent review released Thursday."

Smugglers Tell Migrants to Rush to U.S. Before Trump Takes Power

Image

"Trump’s second term is creating an incentive for migrants to try to reach U.S. soil before the Jan. 20 inauguration, because many anticipate the president-elect will dismantle legal pathways to entry. Those paths include a U.S. government app that allows people to apply for U.S. asylum while in Mexico and then cross legally when they have an appointment—a system created last year that some migrants think will be upended by Trump."
