Email from Rep. Nehls Rep. Nehls Votes YES to Pass H.R. 82 Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington, D.C. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Joins Chairman Comer and Rep. Higgins in Pressing GAO to Assess U.S. Treasury Compliance with Law to Protect U.S. Shrimp Industry This week, I joined House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer and Congressman Clay Higgins in pressing the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) to examine whether the U.S. Treasury Department is following legal requirements to oppose international economic assistance projects that threaten American industries, including the shrimp industry. In April, I introduced the bipartisan Save Our Shrimpers Act of 2024, which would prohibit federal funds from being made available to International Financial Institutions (IFIs) to finance any activity relating to shrimp farming, shrimp processing, or facilitate the export of shrimp in any foreign country to the United States. Additionally, the bill would trigger an investigation within the GAO and require annual reports to Congress to track whether and to what extent U.S. Executive Directors at IFIs are complying with USC 262(h). This letter coincides with my legislation. Read the full letter HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes 'YES' to Pass H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023 H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, would fully repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). WEP is a formula used to reduce Social Security benefits for individuals who paid into both civil service pensions and Social Security throughout their careers. GPO reduces the spousal dependent benefits of individuals who did not pay into Social Security themselves by two-thirds of their government pension. I am a proud cosponsor of this legislation, and proudly voted 'YES' to pass H.R. 82. This bill now awaits action in the United States Senate. 2025 Presidential Inauguration Information The 60th Presidential Inauguration will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025, in Washington, DC, on the west front of the U.S. Capitol. The Needville High School's student council did a fantastic job in organizing this event. On Veterans Day, and every day, make sure to thank a Veteran for their service.
