Launching Initiative to Fortify Essential Democratic Rights Nationwide

This week, I joined Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker to launch the nonpartisan
[link removed]
Governors Safeguarding Democracy (GSD) alliance . Right now, our nation faces increasing threats against American democracy, including the dangers of authoritarianism and the undermining of democratic institutions. It is more important than ever that we work together to protect the state-level institutions of democracy and deliver results for the American people.
GSD is grounded in the belief that saving and strengthening our democracy will require proactive, collaborative, and robust efforts at the state level. We aim to strengthen state democratic institutions by protecting key agencies, responding to emerging threats, and leveraging our collective strength.
American democracy must remain vibrant, resilient, and responsive to the needs of its people. GSD seeks to ensure this by supporting state leaders with tools, knowledge, and resources to protect and strengthen our democracy.
Together, we will foster cross-state collaboration by sharing essential tools, knowledge, and resources and collaborating with think tanks, legal experts, and democracy advocates to help tackle the unique challenges facing American democracy today.
