[[link removed]]Defender,
How long until we lose gray wolves again?
Today is Endangered Species Day, a day when we reaffirm our commitment to
protecting wildlife and the broader web of life on which we all depend.
But the animals we love aren’t safe. The recovery of majestic gray wolves has
been a story to inspire generations of wildlife lovers. Now, those very wolves
are being shot, trapped, poisoned and persecuted across the country.
This Endangered Species Day, you and I need to fight for wildlife like never
before – before we lose these species altogether.
Stand strong for wolf recovery and other imperiled species by giving generously
to Defenders of Wildlife. And until midnight tonight, our Board of Directors and
President’s Circle will match your gift 2-for-1, up to a total of $50,000.

In just the past few months, we’ve seen so much evidence that wolf recovery is
in trouble.
* The Trump administration is moving ahead in its effort to strip gray wolves
in the lower 48 states of all federal Endangered Species Act protections;
* Fewer than 20 red wolves are left in the wild in eastern North Carolina, all
but dooming a decades-long effort to rescue this critically endangered wolf
species.
* In late March, the federal government sanctioned the killing of 4 critically
endangered Mexican gray wolves in New Mexico - another setback for a
population that’s hanging by a thread.
* In Idaho, once a stronghold of gray wolf recovery, the state has established
a fund exclusively devoted to wolf extermination.
Today only, your gift goes three times as far to protect wildlife, in honor of
Endangered Species Day!

You and I speak for wolves and other imperiled wildlife who have no voice of
their own. But we must act fast to prevent a bleak future where the magnificent
species that define our world could be just a memory.
That’s the terrifying reality that we’re facing. Knowing what we’re up against
means we have time to stop it. This Endangered Species Day, pitch in to keep the
species you love here for future generations.
