Friend,
When we think of financial security for retirees, public servants, and individuals with disabilities—you can be sure that Social Security will come to mind. Yet, for too long, certain provisions of our Social Security system have unfairly penalized public sector workers and their families. That’s why I proudly voted this week for the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, a monumental step toward fairness and justice.

Recently, I stood alongside my colleagues in Congress to celebrate the passage of this vital legislation, which repeals the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). These provisions have long reduced or even eliminated Social Security benefits for millions of retired teachers, police officers, firefighters, and other public sector workers who paid into Social Security during their careers.
This victory would not have been possible without the collective efforts of advocates, constituents, and leaders who demanded change. However, Americans must remain vigilant. Conservatives in Congress have consistently pushed to cut Social Security, threatening the financial security of millions of Americans. Let me be clear: I will continue to fight against any attempt to weaken or slash this critical program.
As your congressman and the Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, I am committed to protecting and strengthening Social Security. This program represents a promise to our nation’s workers, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that current and future generations can retire with dignity and the financial security they’ve earned.
Sincerely

Brendan F. Boyle
Member of Congress
