We could use some good news right now. And I have 326 pieces of good news to share with you.

326 and counting—that's how many of our Moms Demand Action volunteers ran for elected office, from school boards to statehouses to Congress, and WON. Not to mention the total 3,300 Gun Sense Candidates who claimed victory this election cycle.

Our gun safety movement is strong and not backing down anytime soon. Let's meet some of our amazing volunteers-turned-lawmakers:

Shaundelle Brooks won her race and will soon be sworn into the Tennessee state legislature. She's a survivor: Her son, Akilah Dasilva, was 23 years old when he was shot and killed in a Waffle House. She founded the Akilah Dasilva Foundation in his honor to fight against gun violence.

Shaundelle has been a vocal advocate with Tennessee Moms Demand Action, and has shown up to the statehouse since 2018 to demand that lawmakers take action to keep Tennesseans safe. When gun lobbyists said ugly things to her, she kept going. This January, she will fight like a Mom as a state representative.

Representative Nancy Gutierrez was re-elected to the Arizona House of Representatives! As a teacher serving students for decades, she volunteered with Arizona Moms Demand Action in order to keep young people safe. As a legislator, she fights for gun safety, reproductive healthcare, water protection, and LGBTQ+ rights.

Cynthia Murphy-Salomone stands with her family, including her two daughters.

Cynthia Murphy-Salomone's two daughters survived the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. It's what got her started as a fierce gun safety advocate with Florida Moms Demand Action.

Cynthia will serve in the Parkland City Commission after beating out an opponent who voted against measures to create a regional climate action plan and give women equal pay for equal work. We applaud her victory!

Every volunteer who ran for elected office has a personal story that drives them to keep their communities safe—just like you do. Kids in your life you want to protect. A neighbor or family member whose life was forever changed by a gun in the wrong hands.

John, it can be tempting to sit alone in our outrage or despair over the elected lawmakers who fuel our gun violence crisis—and so many other crises.

There's another way: Connecting with people who care about this problem, supporting each other, then working together to solve it. It's how our movement thrives, and how our volunteers won 326 elections and counting this election cycle.
