This morning, we reflect on the amazing work done by our dedicated volunteers during this election cycle. Your commitment and hard work truly made a difference in ensuring the voices of Democrats across our community were heard.
Our canvassing team stepped up in a big way, signing up for 116 shifts to knock on doors and connect with voters in our community. Many of our volunteers also took the initiative to use our "grab and go" turf maps to canvas on their own time, and we are so grateful for your dedication.
We also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the phone bank volunteers who dedicated countless hours calling voters. Your outreach made a huge impact, helping us stay connected with voters and ensuring they had all the information they needed.
The texting team, though small, was mighty in their efforts, completing 22 campaigns and reaching out to 275,000 Democrats, left-leaning NPAs, Republican women who signed the abortion petition, and Young Democrats. These campaigns covered key voter outreach topics including vote-by-mail ballot requests, digital slate cards, ballot chases, early voting reminders, and get-out-the-vote efforts on Election Day.
Our sign-waving volunteers were out in full force, filling an impressive 570 shifts and 127 caravan spots across two separate caravans. Your energy and enthusiasm on the streets were felt by voters across the county, creating a visible, powerful presence for our candidates.
A special shout-out goes to our amazing 2024 Voter Protection team! Thanks to your hard work, we trained and credentialed 59 volunteer poll watchers to be on the ground for early voting and Election Day. This allowed us to have a poll watcher at every single polling location across the county, with most locations covered the entire day. In fact, Florida had more scheduled and completed poll watcher shifts than any other state in the country, and these dedicated volunteers identified and resolved over 11,000 issues, from improper check-in procedures to voter intimidation and technical problems.
We also want to thank the volunteers who signed up for 195 poll tenting shifts, helping to wave signs, distribute slate cards, and provide sample ballots at the polls.
Democrats of Indian River recommended a vote of No on Amendments 1 and 6. Amendment 1 would have made School Board elections partisan, while Amendment 6 would have repealed the provision in the State Constitution requiring public financing for campaigns of candidates who agree to campaign spending limits. Thanks to your efforts, neither of these amendments reached the 60% threshold needed to pass!
We are so grateful for each and every volunteer who gave their time, energy, and passion to this election. Whether you waved a sign, made calls, knocked on doors, protected the vote, or supported the cause in any other way, you played an essential role in ensuring our success. Together, we made an impact—and together, we will continue to build a stronger local Democratic Party. Stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved as we move forward into 2025!
