Have a paw-some time with Bluey at the Oldham Christmas Lights Switch-On this weekend

The Oldham Christmas Lights Switch-On is back this Saturday 16 November, and Bluey the loveable puppy from the hit BBC kids' show can't wait to meet you all.

Catch Bluey in Tommyfield Market Hall from 2.20pm, the Spindles Shopping Centre from 3.25pm and on stage at Parliament Square at 4.35pm.

The Christmas Lights Switch-On spectacular show is from 4.45pm with Bluey, Oldham RLFC, other local sporting stars, Father Christmas and lots of other surprises, culminating in a breathtaking fireworks and lights show at 6pm.

There will also be a kids' funfair from 12pm with a bungee trampoline, hook-a-duck, a helter skelter and more.

The Spindles will host face painting, crafts and strolling Christmas characters from 12 to 4pm.

Please be aware that Greaves Street will be closed from 8am to 8pm for the switch-on, and as a result, the taxi rank will be temporarily relocated to Hunters Lane, near the Town Hall Tavern.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for understanding as we celebrate the festive season.

Oldham’s New School Street Welcomed by Community and Local Leaders

A special event was held this week to celebrate the new School Street at Hey with Zion and St Edward’s RC Primary Schools in Lees.

Cllr Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, and Dame Sarah Storey, Greater Manchester’s Active Travel Commissioner, joined students, parents and staff to mark this important step towards safer, more sustainable school travel.

The new School Street, the first in Greater Manchester to use ANPR cameras, restricts traffic during peak hours to improve safety and air quality. Since its launch in September, it has already made a positive impact, with reduced congestion and safer journeys for children.

Afterwards, Cllr Shah and Dame Storey hosted a special school assembly, where pupils received Bee Network badges as a reminder of the importance of road safety.
