We knocked on thousands of doors in San Mateo, CA, and won big for families and neighbors needing housing.
YIMBY Action

YIMBYs really showed up to pass pro-housing policies in local races, and IT MATTERED!

How do we know? Look at the results coming in from San Mateo, CA. We mobilized 16 YIMBY Action members to knock on over 4,000 doors in support of Measure T. Measure T is a zoning policy that will lift height limits on new buildings across the city's downtown and transit corridor. Now let’s look at the map of the precincts to see how people voted in these areas. Green is in favor of the measure and good for us, and red is bad.

And here’s where our volunteers knocked on doors. The 3 areas in red are the areas where we didn’t have time to canvass, and we can see from the precinct data that these neighborhoods are where our measure got the least amount of support.

Our efforts were successful! We ended up winning 60% of the vote, and unlocking 20,000 new homes in San Mateo! Thank you to all the volunteers who walked and knocked on doors with us - we couldn’t have done it without you.

Efforts like this happened with our members across the country, and we’ll be sharing more about how many local elections we won. The work continues, and it takes people like YOU to help make a difference in ending the housing crisis.  Want to support work like this? Become a YIMBY Action member!
